A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Two types of dentures are available Full and Partial Dentures Full and Partial Dentures

What is a full denture?

A full denture is a removable dental prosthesis that replaces all of the natural teeth and lost soft tissues in the maxillary or mandibular dental arch. The denture is usually made of methyl methacrylate (acrylic) and is completely supported by the mouth tissues

What is a partial denture?

A partial removable denture is a removable dental prosthesis that replaces a number of teeth and lost soft tissues in the maxillary or mandibular dental arch.

Different types of partial removable dentures are available:

• Chrome partial removable dentures show a metal frame made of an alloy mainly of those two metals and have the pink acrylic and acrylic teeth attached to it. Cobalt chrome dentures can be made very thin so are a lot less bulky than acrylic dentures and in most cases the palate can be left open rather than having it covered by the dentures.

• Acrylic partial dentures usually are made solely of methyl methacrylate and are completely supported by soft tissues. Most often indicated for use as a provisional solution.

• Flexible partials can be the solution to replace one or more teeth. Unlike more traditional bulky dental materials used for dentures flexible partial dentures are made from a flexible plastic material that fits neatly into your mouth. They also do not require any unsightly metal clasps to keep them in place. The plastic used is so strong that the partial made from it can be very thin, eliminating that heavy, bulky feeling that makes wearing partial dentures unpleasant.
